RIT Men’s Hockey: Chase & Brady Norrish

>>Gene: MITCHELL, BRADY NORRISH, THE BLAST, AND SCORES! WE ARE TIED! [HORN] OH, YEAH!>>John: YOU’VE GOT TO LOVE IT.>>WHAT WAS IT LIKE GROWING UP IN SASKATCHEWAN?>>I’M PRETTY SURE, AT THE AGE OF FOUR, WE WERE ON THE ICE. GREW UP WITH A RINK REAL CLOSE TO HOME THAT WAS HALF THE SIZE OR MAYBE LESS THAN THAT OF A NORMAL RINK WITH CHICKEN WIRE AROUND THE BOARDS, SO THAT WAS KIND OF FUN>>IT’S LIKE ANYBODY ELSE, GROWING UP HERE, PLAYING EVERY YEAR. THERE WERE YEARS WE WERE PRETTY SUCCESSFUL, CLOSE TO RIT, AND THAT’S HOW WE ENDED UP HERE.>>WHAT WAS IT LIKE COMING TO RIT? HOW DID THE SCOUTING PROCESS GO? WAS THIS YOUR FIRST CHOICE?>>OUR JUNIOR YEAR, THERE WAS A SHOWCASE, AND WE WATCHED THIS SORT OF THING. BRIAN HILLS ACTUALLY INVITED US THERE AND TALKED TO US AFTER A LITTLE BIT AND SAID, YEAH, WE’D LOVE TO HAVE YOU. THINK ABOUT IT, AND WE DID, AND WITH A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH WE FOUND THAT RIT WAS A PRETTY GREAT PLACE AND ENDED UP COMING.>>Gene: NORRISH RACES AHEAD. SENDS IT IN AND CHASES HIS OWN REBOUND — HOW ABOUT THAT? [HORN]>>THEIR COACH PLAYED GENESEO FOR BRIAN HILLS AND SAID, LOOK AT THESE TWO GUYS, AND BRIAN WAS THE FIRST TO SEE THEM. DAVE FOLLOWED UP, AND I WENT OUT AT CHRISTMAS TIME.>>Gene: AND A BIG HIT BY CHASE NORRISH.>>THEY WERE GREAT FOR US RIGHT OFF THE GET-GO. ONE WAS DEFENSEMAN OF THE YEAR FOR THE LEAGUE ONE YEAR. THE OTHER WAS THE SECOND YEAR. LAST YEAR, BRADY MADE ALL-LEAGUE TEAM, AND THEY’VE BEEN ALTERNATING, AND WE THINK THEY’RE BOTH GREAT AND THEY BOTH GIVE US SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, BUT SIMILAR OVERALL.>>Gene: AND A GOAL, NUMBER 10, BRADY NORRISH.>>DO YOU SEE YOURSELF BEING A BIG PRESENCE IN THE LOCKERROOM?>>WHEN YOU GET OLDER, I WAS EXPECTED TO LEAD, LEAD BY EXAMPLE. SO HOPEFULLY WE WILL.>>WE LIKE TO ASK THE ATHLETES HERE TO PLAYING ON A D1 OR D3 TEAM HERE?>>IT’S NOT THAT MUCH OF A CHALLENGE. A LOT OF WE HAVE ARE PRETTY EASYGOING WITH STUFF LIKE THEY HAVE PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO HELP YOU OUT AS MUCH WITH THAT STUFF. FOR THE MOST PART, IT’S NOT TOO COMPLICATED, BUT I KNOW WE MISSED A FEW CLASSES, THINGS LIKE THAT. A LOT OF MY PROFESSORS ARE GREAT, VERY HELPFUL WITH ALL THAT STUFF. IT’S NOT TOO STRESSFUL.>>WE HELP EACH OTHER, STUFF LIKE THAT. THERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN’T CONTROL. TALK TO THE PROFESSOR. HE’LL MAKE THINGS WORK.>>WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR AFTER COLLEGE, YOUR CAREERS AND YOUR HOCKEY CAREERS? HEAD BACK TO SASKATCHEWAN OR MAYBE LOOK FOR SOMETHING BIGGER HERE IN THE STATES?>>RIGHT NOW, I’M JUST OPEN TO WHATEVER. I KNOW WE’D LOVE TO KEEP PLAYING HOCKEY. I KNOW THAT MAY NOT BE — THAT’S KIND OF WHAT WE WANT. KIND OF WHERE WE HOPE IT LEADS AFTER COLLEGE. BUT, OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE — I MEAN, WHATEVER PATH TAKES US THERE, WE’LL BE HAPPY.
